MS Girls Volleyball
A Team: The KISAC tournament this weekend reflected the hard work and dedication our A-squad put in all season. It was this group of girls who day in and day out demanded extra practice time to improve their skills and their teamwork to be better than the practice before. This was evident in the KISAC tournament where they defeated 4 out of 5 teams in the round robin, leading them to be placed in the 1st seed. In the finals we played a nail-biting game against Chadwick International. The championship game came down to the tiebreaking 3rd set where both teams gave it their all. The A-squad played some of their best volleyball this weekend and really demonstrated how far they have come as a team. In the end we placed 2nd and each girl received their beautiful silver medals! We are motivated more than ever to go for the gold next season! B Team: This was a terrific volleyball season for the B-squad. Each of the girls not only grew in their volleyball skills but together as a team. This group of girls maintained a positive outlook and growth mindset throughout the season. They were a support for the A and C teams during practice, being flexible and accommodating to the needs of the MS Girls Volleyball program as a whole. These girls did not falter in their hard work and uplifting spirit. This was evident in the KISAC tournament where they came from behind to place 2nd overall truly working together to create the best team possible. It was a joy to coach each of these girls and seeing how each of their talents fit together to create a powerful team. C Team: The C team has a lot to be proud of this season. The girls showed dedication and determination throughout the whole season, which was apparent at the KISAC tournament. They showed up to every practice ready to learn, grow individually and as a team, and give it their all. Throughout the season, each and every one of the team members strengthened their volleyball skills and eventually combined their strengths to work together and communicate as a team to play some great volleyball. The team united at the KISAC tournament to win 4 out of 5 games in round robin. Not giving up after a loss in the championship round, they eventually fought back against Brinksome Hall to earn 3rd place title! It was a pleasure working with this group of girls as their coach. They’re already looking forward to stepping up as leaders for next season! MS Boys Volleyball A Team: The KIS A team focused on speaking the connecting language, learning volleyball fundamentals, and having fun this season. With only 4 players returning from last year, there were 7 new players who were playing volleyball for the first time! The dedication and hard work they exhibited throughout this season and tournament were admirable. During the KISAC tournament the team was able to build on their season long focus by adding positive communication and positive touch to their goals. They demonstrated this by continually communicating to each other using positive language and building their team-mates up after a mistake by high fiving them. They gave it their all during the last match and kept the sets very close almost knocking off the 2nd place team. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to move them ahead in the tournament bracket. Looking ahead to the 2020 season I believe this will be a very strong team that will continue to grow! B Team: The KIS B team worked hard this volleyball season. With many on the team playing volleyball for the first time, the students were able to develop good fundamental skills that will help them over the years to come. The team improved each game they played throughout the season, with the KISAC tournament being no exception. They saved their best for last against a tough DIS team, playing a thrilling game that was full of lead-changes, exciting rallies and a nail-biting finish. The students held their heads high and supported each other with positive words and encouragement throughout the tournament. There is no doubt they will be a team to be reckoned with in the years to come! HS Girls Basketball: Varsity: Overall a great season. The girls ended the season with a record of (3-7) but finished very strong by beating BHA for 3rd place overall in the KISAC tournament. In the final game of the season, the girls were able to put everything together scoring a KIS record 42 points. Special thanks to the seniors who played in their last basketball game for KIS: Aleum Chung, Julia Lee, and Sohee Kim. All three girls brought special skills and leadership to the team and we wish them the best of luck in their next chapter. Junior Varsity: The Junior Varsity team played four tough games against skilled opponents on Friday. They tied two games, won one and lost one. On Saturday, the girls fought hard in their first game for an upset against St. Paul Prep School, moving them into a semi final game against Busan Foreign School. BFS came out with the win, sending KIS to a bronze medal match against BHA. The JV team played some of their best basketball this weekend and really showcased how hard they’ve worked and how much they’ve grown as a team over the season. They finished 4th overall out of 7 teams. Cheerleading The Cheerleading team made a big leap this year filled with many ‘first times’. It was there first time performing in full team uniforms, first time performing half-time shows at KISJ, BHA and SJA in the same day and the first time executing the pyramid! At the KISAC championships, these girls not only demonstrated a great amount of energy in chanting and dancing but also impressed the crowd with much improved tumbling, jumping and stunting. All the girls showed the true DRAGONS characteristics of persistence and collaboration throughout the season. After the last performance last weekend, the girls are already asking when they can begin training for their next performance. HS Boys Basketball: Varsity: The Varsity boys basketball team had a very successful season. The experience of going to Tokyo to play elite level teams in a 3 day tournament at ASIJ was a strong learning opportunity that the boys will never forget. After returning from Japan, they finished the season by winning 7 straight games and winning the KISAC championship for the 4th straight year. Special thanks to the seniors who played in their last basketball games for KIS: Eric Kim, Zack Jung, Lucas Cho, Pete Kim, and Ikjun Jang. The boys basketball program has a lot of younger players with high potential and we are already looking forward to next year. Junior Varsity 1: The JV Basketball team had a great season and the boys were able to learn and grow as players. Even though they were one of the youngest teams at the KISAC championships they showed they could compete with any of the teams there. The boys battled the NLCS Varsity team and lost a nail biting game on the final play. They finished the tournament strong with a commanding 37-10 victory over St. Pauls and showed they were the best JV team at KISAC. Junior Varsity 2: The JV 2 basketball team was a huge success this year with a bunch of boys that had little to no experience in basketball. Most had never played in a competitive game before. They came together and worked hard every week to get ready for the KISAC tournament. Their skills greatly improved throughout the year and they grew together as a team. They had a very exciting tournament with a game going into overtime against SJA’s top JV team and finishing the tournament with a big win against St. Paul’s JV.
