MS/HS GOLF - KISAC CHAMPIONSHIPS:
This season was a huge success! The middle school team made a great effort this season to set individual goals and tried to shape each practice on taking steps toward achieving success. All of our golfers: Gina Kim, Taehoon Kwon, Roy Kang, Matthew huh, Daniel Lee, and Hongjoong Kim were committed, and demonstrated large growth in their skill development. Our season culminated with our first ever 18-hole KISAC tournament at Teddy Valley CC on Wednesday, October 10. All students had a LARGE day! Despite some nervousness at the beginning, our team came through with a gallant effort. A special congratulations are warranted for Gina and Matthew as they brought the Middle School Girls and Boys Championships to KISJ. The opportunity to compete against others schools, and befriend/socialize with some of our neighbors is unmeasurable. This experience not only helped our golfers develop their golf skills, but it also gave them the experience in a multi-school competition and greatly enhanced their overall educational experience at KISJ. Our golfers represented KISJ admirably. Our DRAGONS were on full display throughout the day and their coach was particularly proud of them all. The level of success achieved was demonstrated in the bus ride back from the course when everyone was talking golf and eager to play again. MS/HS CROSS COUNTRY KIS hosted the second Cross Country meet this past Tuesday. There were over 50 runners from KIS, BHA, and NLCS! Our middle school boys had two runners in the top five, Alfred Yoon and Justin Hwang while our high school boys had seven in the top 10: Doomin Kim, Jake Kim, Spencer Kim, Mike Lee, Hojoon Choi, Ryan Kim, and Ian Jung! Our high school girls team was led by Olivia Jang coming in first overall and Serena Jeon came in sixth! Congratulations to all our amazing runners for your dedication and endurance you showed on Tuesday and every day that you have put into training! MS GIRLS BADMINTON The middle school girls badminton team traveled to NLCS for a match on Wednesday. The girls team has been improving all season. NLCS proved to be formidable opponents, winning in both doubles and singles, but our team held their own and won several sets. The players learned a lot of new skills and the competition allowed our team a chance to practice their technique. Overall our game was a great experience and we look forward to our next opportunity to play. HS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL JV: The Junior Varsity girls have been working hard to perfect their game play this season. So far they have won their games played against BHA and NLCS! The girls have been improving their team cohesion and have come together as one unit - communicating in all parts of the game and supporting each other through every point. Our Libero, Luna, has helped her team pass up tough serves in each game. Our setters, Natalie and Annika, have demonstrated their leadership on the court while hustling to make successful plays. Our Middle Blockers, Erin and Jessica - who are both new to volleyball, have been working on defending the net. And our Outside Hitters, Gary, Becky, Youngseo, and Yoona, have been perfecting their “kills” to earn us points. The JV Girls are looking forward to closing out their season with an undefeated record. HS BOYS VOLLEYBALL KISJ Gold: On Tuesday 9 October the JV men's Volleyball team made the trek up the hill for a match against NLCS. The team stepped up to the challenge as they defeated NLCS in two closely contested matches. Both teams were content to seek points by the opposition making mistakes rather than taking the initiative on offense. After several missed serves by both teams, KIS managed to gain some composure and put together a string of several points to clinch the victory. The team is composed of students who have never played volleyball or have limited experience in athletics. The players are learning the basic skills of volleyball, but they need more game experience and exposure to constant competition in order to raise the level of their ability to play volleyball. With further practice and especially game experience, I believe that the team could be competitive in the KISAC tournament in November. - Mr. Baker KISJ Blue: In the second meeting with NLCS this season, the boys took a 2-0 victory. Paul replaced Kyle early in the first set as the setter and led the team to a 25-17 victory. The NLCS showed significant improvement in their defense and serve receive making it a closer game than expected. Communication was a factor in to the slow start but the boys turned it up in time. The second set saw John and Peter come off the bench in the middle and outside respectively. The boys ended up taking the second set 25-23 and will use this victory as momentum in to this weekend as they leave to Busan for the AISA tournament.
