MS/HS CROSS COUNTRY - KISAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
KIS competed in a cross country tournament hosted by NLCS this past Saturday! It was a great afternoon to run with perfect weather, cool but sunny. There were a total of six schools that participated in the meet with new schools that had never been apart of this tournament before, St. Johnsbury and Gyeonggi Suwon International School. We had two runners finish in the top three for both the middle school and high school teams, Alfred Yoon and Olivia Jang. Our girl’s high school team finished first overall for the first time in school history! The coaches are proud of all the runners that came and finished the season strong. HS TENNIS - KISAC CHAMPIONSHIPS The KISAC tennis tournament was held at Branksome Hall Asia for the girls and St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju for the boys. The girl's tournament was a doubles tournament for Junior Varsity and Varsity. There were fourteen teams in total represented by three schools, with KISJ entering five teams into the tournament. KISJ’s Yubeen Jung and Cheri Lim were the best performing JV team, achieving 3rd place. In the Varsity division, the best performing team was a KISJ/SJA mix team with Kirstie Sim and Seo Yeon Yang, finishing in 3rd place. The boy's doubles tournament was destined to have a KISJ winner, given that all five teams were represented by KISJ. The winner of the doubles tournament was Alex Choi and Jake Kim, who beat Benjamin Hong and Joel Shin in the finals. The singles tournament concluded with the two winners from each of the group stages, Jason Kang and Jeff Ru playing for the title. The match portrayed a high level of play with the games tied for most of the set. Ultimately, Jason Kang won the set and was crowned as the new GEC tennis champion. HS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL - AISA TOURNAMENT The HS Girls Volleyball team travelled to Seoul to play in the international AISA tournament for the second time in the past three years. In 2016-17, the girls finished 5th and were hoping to improve on their performance two years later. Led by All Tournament Team selections Catherine Park and Avril Chung, KISJ beat the hosts Seoul International School and after tough games against Yokohama and Osaka were able to beat our sister school - KIS Pangyo to win the bronze medal. Third place is the best result that any KISJ team has had in the AISA tournament. After fall break, the girls will once again hope to take home KISAC gold on November 16th - 17th HS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL - KISAA TOURNAMENT 10 girls travelled to Seoul this weekend to play in the KISAA tournament at BISC. Our team played 4 schools from Seoul over the course of the 2 day tournament, playing to the best of 3 sets. In round robin play, the Dragons dominated, winning every game, only falling short in a single set. KISJ went on to the Championship game on Saturday night and took 2nd place after a very close 3 set game, with a final set score of 16-18. Over the course of the weekend, excellent serving came from Natalie Kim and Becky Noh, while Karam Chung and Amy Cho took charge at the net. Shawn Lee made several amazing passes to assist the Dragons in their 2nd place win. HS BOYS VOLLEYBALL - AISA TOURNAMENT The boys represented the volleyball program well this weekend in Busan at the AISA tournament. The AISA tournament is composed of schools from Seoul, Japan and Busan. Our team was placed in a tough pool with Seoul International School and Senri & Osaka International School. In the first game SIS, who won their divisional championships in KAIAC for the past 2 years, took the game in 3 sets. The boys then played against the reigning AISA champions for the past 4 years, SOIS, and lost in a 4-set match. The improvement in their play was evident and was commented on by other schools and coaches on many occasions. On the second day of tournament play, the boys went up against Yokohama International School and had a great start going up 2 sets to 0. In the third set though, the experience of YIS started to show in their consistency and level-headedness. They went on to take the the game in 5. The result of the YIS game put our boys in the 5th place match against BIFS. The boys went in to their final game with fire in their eyes and took the match 3-0. Although the team expected a better result, the future shows promise. The team consisted of 1 freshman, 4 sophomores, 2 juniors and only 3 seniors. Of the 10 boys, 3 were rookies and another 2 had their first varsity level volleyball experience this year. Sol Lee was placed on the AISA All Tournament Team for the great job he did leading his team all weekend. Overall, the boys learned a lot and seem motivated to continue improving.
